Bio

My journey into the world of quilting was sparked by the exquisite hand-pieced/hand-quilted quilts of my Grandma Stella Smith. Though I never had the chance to meet her, I've been fortunate to admire and own a few of her masterpieces. Each quilt holds a special place in my heart, a testament to the love and passion that went into their creation.

I began working with fabric and thread when I was about eight, learning hand embroidery from my mother (Rosie). I first learned to sew with a machine in a 4-H class and later expanded my skills through Home Economics classes. I learned quilting techniques from many wonderful teachers and through various books and PBS quilting programs.

My educational journey has been diverse, reflecting my passion for learning. After high school, I earned an Associate of Arts degree in Business/Secretarial Science, followed by a Bachelor's degree in K-12 Education with a minor in Library Science. Years later, I earned a Master's degree in Educational Media and Technology.

My career in education, spanning roles as a teacher, librarian, and development director, was a testament to my love for learning. Since retiring from the University of Minnesota Duluth, I have dedicated my time and energy to teaching classes in the art of quiltmaking, a passion that has always burned bright within me.
